Perky Pet 395 10 inch Sunflower Seed and Peanut Feeder, 1.25 lb capacity Review

(More customer reviews)For 7 weeks now I have been using this little black plastic feeder with its study metal top.I had filled it halfway with unshelled raw peanuts and halfway with shelled pistachios.It is now almost empty and ready to be filled again.I don't have a lot of birds that come to my yard, but have at least two Chickadees that visit this feeder at least twice daily - they seem to enjoy a few bites of suet, a few bites of peanuts or pistachios from this feeder, and then on they go to the tube feeder for some seed mix. So I have all types of feeders and am not sure if this feeder alone would pull the birds in or not.I have also occasionally seen a Carolina Wren or a Downy Woodpecker at this feeder (when it is more full).Sometimes I see a squirrel spending about 5 minutes to (I guess) lick the peanuts since he can't pull the peanuts through such little holes (unless he is breaking them somehow into smaller pieces).The squirrels seem especially aggressive this season - one broke another feeder but I don't see any way they can break this one - it is built pretty tough.

The reason I gave it only 4 stars is because it didn't come with instructions on how to use the lid so I had to figure that out for myself - it simply lifts straight up on the metal inverted U-shaped bar - pull the inverted U-shaped bar up as far you can first. Then after filling, you just push the lid back down leaving the bar all the way up still.The lid does not lock down and that bothered me at first, but so far no squirrel has been able to lift up the lid despite making several attempts to do so - the bar expands outward some so adds some pressure I guess.I hung it over a small tree limb by forcing the tree limb through the opening of the inverted U-shaped bar. Not sure if this was how I was suppose to hang it but it works for me.

I like being able to offer peanuts and pistachios and have them last a good long while.Since I offer seeds and suet by other means, I think of this as just an "extra snack" feeder which might attract some birds to my yard that I have not seen before.Birdwatching is a hobby of mine and I think if the birds did not enjoy eating from this feeder (even though it may be a bit "challenging") they wouldn't keep coming back.

(More customer reviews)This feeder IS NOT squirrel proof. The little darlings hang from it and reach in between the "fortress" guard and help themselves. The squirrels also gnaw on the plastic tube. The feeder is also hard to put back together because any seed that's in the base of it gets in the way of the "locks" on the bottom... you almost have to empty it each time you put it back together so there is no seed blocking the locks.

(More customer reviews)Let's see, I wrote a review for this toy where most others left their reviews.However, I ordered this toy from Online Discounters.Now, I thought I purchased the toy but it took so long to arrive I started believing I did not order it.When a tiny box arrived on my doorstep the entire toy was squashed into the box with no paper, nothing except a shipping receipt crunched in the box too.I felt like there should be an apology in the box... Dear Consumer, we forgot about you... and all we could find was this tiny box, so we stuffed your brand new dog toy in it and sent it out, WEEKS late... hope you understand!Too MUCH!Do not order from them.Ridiculous.

Now the toy is not for every dog, it depends on your dog.My dog was totally turned off by the rattler in the head initially, as no animals head rattles in real life and she prides her young self on being quite the huntress, having caught a mole on leash.The square shape is not easy to work with and overall it is just not interesting enought to hold her attention.While my dog is very smart and clever, she is also rather choosey about her toys.She is SO playful she will try to play with most any toy, but if she cannot find a way, she tries to let me down easy after Mom spent her hard earned money on it....When she finds ones she likes she actually makes up games with them.She seems to enjoy the real life squirrel mat by kyjen more because the tail honks, the head does not rattle and we can play tug-o-war with it.She is a small dog so she works to get the squeakers squeaking.The only problem is this toy looks like a dead animal or you great great grandmas old mink stole... no cutesy factor there!I heard my friends dog got another brand, from petedge, of squeaker mat and her pug walks up and down it, which I thought wasa rather clever approach.I turned her on to the Kyjen line.The eggs alone are a must for a small dog.

Yankee Whipper Bird Feeder 180 Degree Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great feeder. I had it up for 3 weeks, no squirrels. Plenty of Cardinals, chickadees, nuthatches, etc. However, today I saw a squirrel clinging to the holes and sides of the feeder.

The feeder is suspended buy very thin 30 lb. monofilament fishing line from a very high branch; feeder is about 7 feet from ground. Would be difficult for a squirrel to slide down the fishing line - but possible, I suppose.

Edit - now I know he leaped up from the nearby giant Rhododendron. I moved the Whipper away from the Rhody - but too close to the trunk of the tree - about 5 feet. Witnessed many squirrels leaping from trunk of tree onto Whipper. They grab onto the birdseed holes.

Imoved the Whipper - now it is at least 6 feet off the ground, but over the lawn - will need to move it again.

I liked having the feeder over the Rhody - empty sunflower shells fall onto the ground under the Rhody, out of sight. Rhody gives the birds plenty of cover - they perch in the Rhody before darting over to the feeder, then dart back.A good thing as I saw a hawk peering down yesterday from a tree in the next yard.

I hung this feeder out today, because my local bird store told me it would keep out larger birds.Well, the grackles just love it.They've been hanging on it all day.Their long beaks easily reach through the cage to get the seed, and they've been jealously guarding it as their personal food source all morning.Sorry songbirds!

Havahart 5265 Spray Away Motion-Activated Water Repellent Review

(More customer reviews)I have three motion detecting sprinklers, two made by Contech (ScareCrow) and one by Havahart. Both of them are excellent for repelling deer (two years of experience with high deer pressure) but the Contech ScareCrow is more dependable. Although the Scarecrow sprinkler is more expensive, it is worth the price. The Havahart does not come with a guarantee other than a 30 day return policy whereas the Contech ScareCrow sprinkler has a two year warranty and they stand behind it. I had one fail after 22 months of use and they replaced it promptly. Also the motion detecting range, sensitivity, and adjustment is more stable and dependable in the Contech ScareCrow. The only time I've not had the ScareCrow work was during a period of very high humidity during some rainy weather when it failed to go off during a period of less than a day. On the other hand the Havahart motion sprinker is much more erratic in its performance and sometimes fails to work for brief periods.

Squirrel-Proof Bird Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)I have 3 (successful) birdfeeders and go through lots of seed. This nice looking metal, sturdy, 'squirrelproof' feeder caught my eye. (I paid more than here on Amazon,too) I've had it for 6 months, through an entire spring/summer/fall cycle, rotated sites, rotated seeds. I firmly believe it's a design flaw. The little perchs are too small for larger birds to sit comfortably and eat the seed. The space between the bottom seed tray and the metal openings are too deep. The birds need to reach down nearly 1 inch to get the seeds - too deep for the little birds. I've even found the spring-loaded cage locked closed after a squirrel had tried to get to it -the cage never sprang back up to allow access to the seed.

PLEASE save your sanity and purchase a different feeder!!

(More customer reviews)My wife used to purchase Deer Off at a local landscaping store, and there was no question that it worked. We have a lot of deer in our area, and if she kept our plants sprayed right after a heavy rain washed things off, the deer didn't bother the plants. If she forgot, it only took a day or two before the deer ate the plants.

The local store stopped carrying Deer Off this year, so I decided to purchase it on Amazon. When I got it, my wife noticed that the color of the concentrate was different than before. It seems that they have a new formula, and it DOESN'T work! (Their website confirms that they have "improved" their formula.) I contacted the Havahart company directly to see if they would trade me for the old formula, but they didn't even answer my email. I strongly suggest that you stay away from this product unless they return to their original, proven, formula.

Arundale 150 Mandarin Wild Bird Feeder Review

(More customer reviews)The "dramatic" dome does not keep out rain. There's a hole for the chain at the top! Rain invariably seeps in, so that the seed at the bottom, where the birds feed, rots. Even though this feeder holds so much, I sometimes have to take it down before it's emptyto clean it. Admitedly, I live in Georgia, and we get torrential downpours. If you get only light showers, or live in a dry region, this may be the feeder for you.

However, the perches on the feeder are plastic, and are once again worn or broken. No one seems to want to stock them, so I'm on the internet looking for some. Amazon does not have them either. I'll continue my search. At some point, I'll continue my pathetic search for the perfect feeder.
