It taked 4 c batteries and will last up to about 12 to 20 rats. In the first 24 hours we had caught 4 rats. Two days later we had a total of 6 rats caught. We paid $40.00 plus $5.00 for batteries and it is worth every penny. No meses to clean up, you just just give a little shake and the rat falls into the trash can. Best rat trap ever.

(More customer reviews)Anyone who deals with feral animals on a regular basis will do well to have their own Havahart trap, rather than getting one for a limited time from the Humane Society; that way when the opportunity for capturing the animal presents itself, one is ready for the moment. Also, trapping some wary or streetwise animals can take patience, gradually placing the food further in the trap. A few critters take time to get used to the mesh under their paws, and feel secure enough to venture into the trap, and occasionally it's longer than the fortnight the Humane Society allots for the rental.

For me, it's the feral cats that accumulate in my apartment complex garage, scrounging for food and seeking shelter. Depending on the estimated health and age of the animal, one can either trap and then neuter/spay and release, or take them to the local animal control. The purpose is to stop the cycle of misery caused by the endless multiplication of unwanted cats, some born to mothers so hungry they don't have the milk to feed them.

The Havahart Professional Cage Trap is ingenious in design, and sturdy in construction. If you keep your trap clean and dry, it will last for decades. I have used my 32" Model 1079 for everything from small kittens to a large tom that must have tipped the scales at 15 + lbs. A word of caution: Always cover the top of the cage with a towel after catching an animal, because a trapped animal will often try to reach up and scratch your hand on the handle, and also, the less the animal sees, the less fearful it will be.

I didn't want to kill them, didn't want to use poisons, had tried scaring them, throwing stuff at them, urine-marking, using a road-kill squirrel to deter them... and NOTHING worked. This electric fence was cheap and extremely easy to erect around my garden. After an iteration or two of defining the boundary (the squirrels found ways through a few times), I had 100% success with keeping the squirrels out. They even seemed to learn that the white electric fence rope meant "stay away" because sometimes I would forget to turn it on and they didn't come back. Whereas before, they would come back every 30 mins. Good fence, good price.

(More customer reviews)I actually bought a slightly different model of this product that ... doesn't sell, the X-Contro by Lentek.It's the same thing but without the flashing light.I bought it because we were having problems with rats and racoons in our yard (rats eating from our bird feeders and racoons just tearing the yard up).
I was attraced to the Lentek products because of the 900Mhz motion detector that would set it off if anything moved within a 15' radius.What I found out was that the rats were too small to set it off, so unless I was willing to run a cord out to it so it could run in continuous mode, the rats were safe.
Luckily (I guess), within 2 weeks of setting it up, the motion detector had essentially stopped working and it was going off every 15-20 seconds whether there was any motion or not.That actually helped with the rats and I was a bit thankful for the defect.
However, the advantage of having the device activate every few seconds was mitigated by the noise that it made.New out of the box, the device makes a very pronounced clicking whenever the speakers turn on or off.It's audible enough that when it was setup outside and I had the windows open I could hear it on the other side of my house.Although annoying, that was acceptable to me.
But as time went on, the device became more and more audible, letting out fairly loud, gargled squeaks and chirps from time to time.It seemed to be most pronounced when the device would get wet (it claims to be weatherproof).Finally, today, it has gotten to the point where it is completely audible (and loud)regardless of the frequency range I set the device to.So, I have had to take it down -- since I live in a somewhat compact neighborhood, having that kind of noise blasting out every 20 seconds is a sure way to get death threats from the neighbors.
The most annoying part of this is that, in the end, it never seemed to deter the racoons, who continue to tear up my yard with abandon.Also, as another testament as to how cheaply this thing seemed to be constructed, there is a glued-on piece of paper that sits around the device's controls and provides captions for each.Within 3 days of putting this outside, that paper had curled up and pulled off the device because of the heat (90 F, but it was in a completely shaded area).

What I figured out from previous reviews is that "more is not better". I sprinkle very sparingly amounts about 2 a week on trees, bushes, fence corners - the typical places a coyote or fox would mark. I can see cats in other yards in the neighborhood but they avoid our yard, which was the goal on order to keep our indoor cat calm and to provide sanctuary for the birds in the backyard.

(More customer reviews)I got these for over my newborn's crib onto painted drywall and it took a while for me to get the design just right.I did NOT plan out where each sticker should go like they recommend and ended up moving each piece about 5-6 times.THEY STILL STICK WONDERFULLY!!I was concerned about their durability in the humidity of Hawaii but it has been no problem whatsoever.Despite all my rearranging, 7 months later not a glimpse of any peeling.

My daughter definitely digs them and gazes up at the mural these stickers have created.I plan on getting another set for elsewhere in her room.

Highly recommended!

Note:I wouldn't recommend this set for a 3-6 year old to apply themselves since some of the pieces (the deer's antlers) are a little intricate or small for stubby fingers.

***UPDATE:
My 8 month old managed to peel one of the stickers off the wall, and spent about half an hour chewing on it in her crib.So bad news is that a persistent baby can peel these off.You may want to place them accordingly.But the good news is that the sticker STILL works, and smoothed out nicely.Couldn't believe it.

(More customer reviews)I live in Hawaii, and one of the down sides is the many insects of all types. Using one of these in my condo when I first moved in seemed to keep the place almost completely free of cockroaches for about 1.5 years or a bit more, then I started seeing them a little.
Before it wore out, I saw 2-3 roaches, and I can see that many in a few minutes in some places around here.
Movedand bought 2, one for each floor of the house. About two years have gone by, and I'm overdue to replace them, as I'm starting to see occasional roaches and centipedes.

Much healthier than using poison, and probably a lot cheaper, too.

(More customer reviews)If you have decent welding skills, you might be able to make this trap yourself.However those without welding skills or time would benefit from this trap.There's nothing technologically advanced about this trap, it just uses a sturdy steel frame and a very strong spring.The spring is just much stronger than your ordinary grocery store rat trap.

You should be cautious when setting this trap, as the spring should be strong enough to break a finger if you accidentally release it on yourself.Be careful if you have pets or neighbors have pets.Wear gloves as much as possible.I used chopsticks to lay the bait on the trap plate.Make sure you use the attached chain to use a stake (not included) to hold the trap in place.There is also a metal washer attached to the frame that you can use to screw the trap onto to something.

Squirrel's Delight Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this squirrel feeder in fall of 2005, and greatly enjoyed watching the squirrels' antics the first winter. Little ones would sit inside to feast, popping up like a jack-in-the-box, while larger ones would lift the lid, reach in with the lid resting on their backs while they grabbed a piece of peanut,then lean back and let the lid drop while they ate, then repeat this many times.

The following winter, I started noticing that some of the squirrels had bald spots, and they looked worse with each passing day. I feared there was some sort of mange going around. Then I realized that none of the smaller squirrels were effected, just the big ones.

And then I realized that the bald spots were precisely where the lip of the lid would be scraping against their backs as they pulled away from the box.I went out and felt the bottom edge of the lid, which was sharp as a razor, and which has been dragging across their backs as they pull themselves out of the box.

The box is coated with an enamel paint, and over the course of last winter, the squirrels' bodies must have rubbed that off, exposing the raw edge. I suppose I could put duct tape or something along the edge to dull it but I don't want to take the chance at this point and frankly, I no longer enjoy watching them at this feeder knowing it has harmed them.

A box feeder is fun to watch, but I recommend you avoid any type which has an overhanging lip on the lid as this one does. I have seen others which have a flat lid, and though it's more easily destroyed, wood would probably be less hazardous than metal.
