(More customer reviews)We have recently had rats in our basement eating everthing. We tried all kinds of traps with no luck. We bought the Victor Electronic rat trap from our local hardware store. It taked 4 c batteries and will last up to about 12 to 20 rats. In the first 24 hours we had caught 4 rats. Two days later we had a total of 6 rats caught. We paid $40.00 plus $5.00 for batteries and it is worth every penny. No meses to clean up, you just just give a little shake and the rat falls into the trash can. Best rat trap ever.

(More customer reviews)When we moved, my poor cat went crazy and wouldn't be handled, touched, approached, or even looked at.We knew she'd calm down once all the commotion was over, so our friend lent us one of these traps for her.

One day in an empty house later(save, of course, the trap baited with her very favourite food), we had a VERY unhappy cat in a very sturdy trap.

My only complaints are:

*the carrying handle is too short or the "guard" is too small.She was able to take swipes at me until I covered the trap with a blanket and carried it using a glove.

*the release mechanism is also too uncomfortably close to the unhappy trap-ee.Leather gloves solved this once again.

Otherwise, it worked perfectly!

(By the way, my cat calmed down after about two days and is sitting next to me now, purring)

(More customer reviews)There are 5 different cats that come into our back yard daily to stalk the birds and squirrels that come around to feast on the seeds and peanuts that we leave for them.These cats have decided that our yard is their personal killing field.We have buried several of our little furry and feathered friends.The cats don't eat them, they just kill them.We have spoken to people in the neighborhood in the past, and their attitude is "that's what cats do...deal with it".

Well, I DID deal with it.I ordered the GREEN live animal trap, and one by one, those pests (3 so far, in 3 days) are being relocated.The trap works fabulously!

As for the reviewers that complained about how HARD the trap was to put together, all I can say is that they must have ZERO mechanical aptitude.You take the cage out of the box, pick it up by the handle, and it unfolds and pretty much assembles itself!You then slide one piece into place to lock everything together, and it's completed!The instructions that came with the trap were actually quite good!If you have trouble reading instructions, just look at the pictures.The whole process is quite simple.As for setting the trap, again, the instructions and pictures make it quite simple to understand.

For anyone who has an animal pest problem, this trap is an excellent size for anything from squirrels to cats to racoons, etc.Think twice about leaving it out overnight.Where I live, skunks prowl at night.If you catch one in the trap, You may not have a social life for a while after you let it go!

(More customer reviews)I had a female squirrel chew through a gable vent and make a nest for herself (and babies) in our attic.This trap is a good choice for squirrels -- rat "snap" traps are too small.The model 1040 trap is a slightly better choice -- it has the same width and height, but is a little longer, making it less likely that the squirrel's "butt" will hold the door open.

Keep the instruction sheet packed with the trap.It describes how to adjust the sensitivity of the pan.Trip it a few times yourself to make sure you are fully familiar with it.If squirrels still manage to steal the bait, try smearing peanut butter on the underside of the pan -- it's harder for the squirrels to steal it that way.

Now, the part you DON'T want to know.You are not doing the squirrel any favors by relocating it.Many states (mine included) specifically ban relocating squirrels and other wild animals.At best you are giving your problem animal to some other homeowner.At worst, squirrels and other small mammals are territorial and will die if transported to unfamiliar territories where the current residents are unlikely to welcome them anyway.Also, all wild animals harbor diseases and parasites (fleas, ticks, bot flies, etc.) -- transport the animal and you spread local infections.

The animal really does have to be humanely destroyed.

(More customer reviews)All summer long we had a daily stream of chipmunks, mice, and birds flowing into the house courtesy of our cats, which brought them in through the dog flap. The chipmunks often took up residence under the refrigerator and one was under there so long that I started feeding it, too. I tried for weeks to catch it with the mouse-sized Havahart trap, but it never worked. I finally realized that the chipmunk was probably so large for that trap that when the door shut it never shut entirely because the chipmunk's body was in the way. I went online to see if there was a bigger trap and I found the chipmunk-sized one. I ordered it and within 30 minutes of getting it and setting it up I heard the "Snap" of the trap. Sure enough, I finally had safely trapped the chipmunk. I delivered him to the arboretum across the street, where I hope he lived happily ever after.

(More customer reviews)When I got these traps (I ordered 2), I was immediately impressed.They are sturdily made of a powder-coated metal, probably steel, and have a very nice trip mechanism.I bought them solely for chipmunks, and immediately baited them and set them out.For several days, I found the trap tripped, but empty.I thought the trigger mechanism was faulty, but the next day found a chippie inside.An hour later I got ready to take the trap out for relocation, and it was empty.Hmmm.I measured the door, and it is about 4" wide, but the opening is 4 ?", and the door slides freely from side to side.That ?" opening is plenty of room for chippies or rats to walk right out.So, with this trap, you give your chippies a nice meal, then they laugh and wave as they stroll out to cause other mischief.

If you are trying for squirrels or small rabbits, this should work fine.But for chippies, the poor door design makes it worse than useless.

Havahart 1084 Easy Set/Release One Door Cage Trap for Rabbits, Skunks and Large Squirrels 24-by-7-by-7-Inches Review

(More customer reviews)After three weeks of trial and error, I finally caught my first squirrel.I started with the Havahart 1025 and found my prey kept getting away.I realized the trap was too small for the little bugger because my bait would disappear even after the trap had sprang.I took it back and got me the next biggest trap that Lowes carries:Havahart 1092.For those who are familiar with the 1092, it's quite huge and made for trapping stray cats, raccoons, and similar sized animals.Though the trap was big it was easy to handle, bait, and set.I left it out for several days without much luck.The little bugger wouldn't take the bait behind the trigger plate.He would nibble at it from the outside of the cage and left me cleaning up after the scraps.Again, I packed up the trap and took it back.I searched the Internet, looking for a retailer that carries the medium-sized traps, specifically the Model 1084.I wasn't interested in online purchase due to the hassle of returns.I didn't find many within the area.One of the major carriers of Havahart traps, however, was Ace Hardware.There were many in the area, so I called around asking for the 1084.After many tries, I found one store who has it.I made my trip there after work and had my trap set that same night.The Model 1084 was small and light, so I was able to position it in the tree where I had the most activity.Unlike the 1092 which opens from both sides, you have reach in to load the bait.I left the persimmon in the back of the cage.When I came back the next day, I found a side of the persimmon had been nibbled away.Fluster but unwavered I decided to hang the persimmon this time and reposition the opening of trap toward a branch where the little bugger can easily access.To my surprise the next day, the cage door had be shut and what looked like a brown ball from faraway turned out to be the little bugger that has been trashing my yard the past year.I was so elated; and I have Havahart to thank for for constructing such a great contraption.

(More customer reviews)I purchased another trap based on the reviews there and then realized that the trap was too small. This trap is fabulous! Simple setup. I intend to leave it setup and am not worried about trying to collapse the cage although it appears easy to do. I have used peanut butter with a trail of sunflower seeds into the trap. While I am annoyed at the neighbor down the street who has decided to feed the squirrels peanuts during the winter, I now have the trap to catch them, drive them 3-4 miles away, and let them go!

NOTE: be sure to put some newspaper down in the auto since the squirrels tend to "let loose" while in transport and you do not want squirrel pee and poop in your car!

(More customer reviews)I had squirrels in my attic and got this to get rid of them.I put it near the tree where they would come down from the house.I use bread smeared with peanut butter to stick it to the trip plate to help assure it goes off.

After catching the first dozen (only maybe 3 were from my house) I was afraid they were returning from my drop off spot about 2 miles away [Nice wooded area with a large pond].I started spray painting spots on their tails to be sure they weren't being territorial and returning.None have come back.

I have now caught 26 and think I have cleared my entire neighborhood of gray squirrels.When I startedwould catch one per hour, now I leave it for days with nothing and haven't seen any around lately.
