(More customer reviews)Purchased this product...well, purchased 6 of these (2 squirrels, 2 raccoons and 2 skunks) from another company initially as Christmas toys for my 6 Greyhounds waaay back in August when they went on sale at that 'store'.
Received 4 of the 6 promptly, but waited and waited for the 2 on b/o. When they hadn't arrived by last week (Christmas is getting close..), I called and was told 'no longer available'. When I questioned the fact I hadn't been notified they had been discontinued and I wouldn't be receiving the balance of my order, there was no explanation from their Customer Svc. What did I do? Came right to Amazon and found them here. Although NOT on sale and I never pay full price for toys for my dogs, I wanted these to complete the 'set' so all the dogs get the same thing.Using my Prime, I got the two replacement toys from Amazon in two days that I waited months for from the other company never knowing they would never be sent to me. I did pay full price, but for only 2 so it wasn't that bad.
The toys have the 'Sergeant's tags attached as well as the "Squeeze Here" stickers on throat (?) and underside of 'butt'. They are about 16" long nose to tip of tail and 8" wide (outstretched feet) with the body being about 6" wide. The heads are soft and furry; about the size of a softball with bulging plush eyes that could be mistaken for furry ping/pong balls. They are decent in size all around except for the area across their backs and bellies that look like tire tread marks - that part of their bodies is flat - no stuffing. The tails are full and fluffy - (picture a Davy Crockett hat complete with bushy tail) and not disappointing at all. Almost too cute for words. Of course I would think that! I got them stuffed ticks and fleas for Christmas last year from Amazon.
All in all, these are expensive at full price, but if one can catch a sale or clearance, these are worth the effort. They are 'spot clean' but most of the plush toys I have for my dogs that require spot cleaning, I simply place in a mesh laundry bag (for delicates) and fling them in with regular laundry, then line dry. They come out fine so I'll probably do that with these too.
Now, here's the fun part. I had all 6 of these in a box near my 'desk' in the corner of the room with the 4 cover flaps inter-closed to deny entrance to the contents of the box. The toys from the other company came 2 to a plastic bag, while the Amazon 2 came unwrapped in plastic and each alone so to keep those 2 clean, I placed them beneath the plastic wrapped ones in the same box. Rather than carry them to the cellar for 2 weeks and then have to bring them back up for the Christmas stockings, I left them on the floor in the corner. While cooking supper one night, I hear pouncing. I hear pounding. I hear running down the hall. I hear crate doors being slammed open and shut as dogs go barreling into the various rooms. I hear bodies bumping into one another. I hear squeaking.I drop what I'm doing and walk to the hallway. What do I see? An airborn skunk, fuzzy tail flapping in the wind, bulging eyes bugging out in fear, four legs spread wide about to land on my face!And 6 sets of soft,brown eyes, 24 tall legs, 6 whip-like tails and 6 athletic, agile bodies all thundering down the hall to catch it.Yep! My youngest Greyhound who is the most curious about everything 'new' got the box flaps open, carefully chewed open the plastic bag and set it aside on the floor, and then stealthily captured himself a skunk. (so much for Christmas morning surprises). They were having so much fun I didn't have the heart to take it away. They got their toys a bit early but I couldn't be more pleased. They carry them outside in the snow and rain, they sleep with them and some even keep them company in the kitchen near their respective feeding stations during meal time. A big hit here so I'm happy I purchased them. So far, with so much rigorous play and weather, they are holding up very well as are the squeakers, which are usually the first to go.
Edit: 2-21-10 Neither rain, nor sleet, nor puddles, nor muddy muck can stay these toys from being carried outside! Ok, so I've had to launder them a lot sooner than I had hoped. The first few times I did use the mesh laundry bag I have for delicates, but these critters are so popular, I'm washing at least one/two every few days. Decided to throw Mr. Raccoon in bare-naked with other 'dog laundry' such as towels and crate blankets and bedding. He not ony came out clean and sweet smelling, all his parts and fur were in tact. I hung him on the line to dry (just folded him over the line at his midsection (tread marks) and he dried full and fluffy.
