It was great for small birds but the cardinals would not perch to eat. Also the birds kicked a lot of feed out and it fell to the ground. With an excellent food supply my chipmunk population got way out of hand. With the "All Weather Feeder" Ihave all the small birds that were there before and now the Cardinals are coming also. The bottom pan catches the excess feed so it does not fall to the ground, no food=no chipmunks. GREAT

Nice to be able to adjust the brass rod to adjust somewhat how high or low the feeder hangs below the dome. The squirrels have tried but. so far. haven't been able to get to the feeder as the dome turns on the rod when they stretch down from the tree branch and put their front feet on it.They can't get a grip and the shelled sunflower seed is lasting longer; now the birds get it!Because they have been so entertaining, we put up a tray feeder to treat the squirrels.

I am using a squirrel resistant feeder ( cage drops down from squirrel's weight to close seed openings )and it still works great. They don't even try to jump on any more and have to depend on whatever the birds throw out to scavenge...I wound up using an all thread rod through the top of the feeder to transmit the torque from the twirler as it broke a clothes hanger rod I had fashioned. 100% satisfied!!!

(More customer reviews)After three weeks of trial and error, I finally caught my first squirrel.I started with the Havahart 1025 and found my prey kept getting away.I realized the trap was too small for the little bugger because my bait would disappear even after the trap had sprang.I took it back and got me the next biggest trap that Lowes carries:Havahart 1092.For those who are familiar with the 1092, it's quite huge and made for trapping stray cats, raccoons, and similar sized animals.Though the trap was big it was easy to handle, bait, and set.I left it out for several days without much luck.The little bugger wouldn't take the bait behind the trigger plate.He would nibble at it from the outside of the cage and left me cleaning up after the scraps.Again, I packed up the trap and took it back.I searched the Internet, looking for a retailer that carries the medium-sized traps, specifically the Model 1084.I wasn't interested in online purchase due to the hassle of returns.I didn't find many within the area.One of the major carriers of Havahart traps, however, was Ace Hardware.There were many in the area, so I called around asking for the 1084.After many tries, I found one store who has it.I made my trip there after work and had my trap set that same night.The Model 1084 was small and light, so I was able to position it in the tree where I had the most activity.Unlike the 1092 which opens from both sides, you have reach in to load the bait.I left the persimmon in the back of the cage.When I came back the next day, I found a side of the persimmon had been nibbled away.Fluster but unwavered I decided to hang the persimmon this time and reposition the opening of trap toward a branch where the little bugger can easily access.To my surprise the next day, the cage door had be shut and what looked like a brown ball from faraway turned out to be the little bugger that has been trashing my yard the past year.I was so elated; and I have Havahart to thank for for constructing such a great contraption.

The center wire that runs through the center of the feeding bin allows for the feeder to spin wildly in the wind. I had to drill a hole on each side of the roof and attach a 'Y' shaped wire that eliminates that spin. Further, the feeding tray where the birds eat the seed has no drainage holes and fills with water. Again, I had to drill four small drain holes to correct that problem. All in all, the feeder is not worth the money unless they correct these flaws. Other than that, it's perfect.

(More customer reviews)This feeder works great! Squirrels do a nice backflip off when they get zapped. They don't get on again. So far it has also kept the opossums and raccoons off as well.
I tried one of those lithium batteries in it and it did not work well. I'd stick with alkaline. I haven't had to replace them too often. About every 4-6 months I put in a new one just to be on the safe side.

This model is very large. I love being able to dump in this much sunflower seed and then not have to fill the feeder for a few weeks. I have it mounted on a pole and it works great there. The bottom tray is just big enough for cardinals and sometimes a mourning dove to land. Smaller perching birds have no problem on it.

Just remember to flip the switch to off before you try to fill it ;)It will give you a nice strong zap that you can feel from your finger to your shoulder.

I've had this now for about 4 years and it's weathered quite well being outside year round. If it stopped working tomorrow I would buy another one. It saves me a ton in the seed I used to waste on those squirrels. It saves me the frustration of finding my feeders ravaged by raccoons who used to leave them strewn across the yard.

I love this feeder.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for my 30 lb beagle/dalmatian mix as a bit of a joke; our house has had a flying squirrel infestation before.It is a HEAVY toy for a plush.The rope is much thicker and stronger than the usual rope toy, and the seams are all stitched with heavy duty thread.The toy contains two squeakers- one in the torso and one on the tail in the outer ring.My dog loves to play catch with the squirrel, and I find with the rope its very easy to grab onto as she isn't always the best about bringing things right back to you.She likes to play tug a war with this toy as well.I'm also happy to report that we had some soiling incidents where she urinated in her cage and got the toy dirty, but I've machine washed it twice and it still looks brand new.She has enjoyed this toy for over a month now and it shows no signs of wear, despite many hours of squeaking and tugging.I would recommend this toy to anyone with a dog that favors plush or rope toys.A strong chewer will still be able to rip it apart I'm sure (try the firehose toys if this is the case for your pup), but this is definitely a lot stronger than your average plush squeaker toy.

(More customer reviews)I have been battling the squirrels with limited success for years. Either the feeders didn't stop the squirrels at all or they were so dang ugly I didn't want them in my yard. The squirrels even ate a few of the "squirrel proof" feeder I tried.
I'm pretty cheap, but the Droll Yankee Co. seems to have a good reputation so I wasn't too reluctant to part with the bucks for this feeder. My first impression was that it is a lot larger than I expected and seemed to be sturdier than most feeders.
I plugged it in and let it charge overnight (it charges like a power screwdriver), filled it with black-oil sunflower and hung it in my favorite bird feeder tree the next morning. My Carolina-chickadees and Cardinals were feeding within thirty minutes, Mr.Squirrel made his first attempt after about an hour. There is really no way I can describe what followed. Let's just say I have some really freaked out squirrels around my house.
I have had the feeder up for over a month, the squirrels have been forced to feed from the spilled seed on the ground and the feeder is still operating from the original charge.
This feeder is is worth every penny and then some. I wish I could give it more than five stars.

As a bonus, the feeder is the simplest we've found for filling and cleaning.It holds 10 pounds of birdseed.

Once, I inadvertently shocked myself 'cause I forgot to turn the power switch off.Just as they claim, it's a very mild static-electricity type shock which startles rather than harms.

(More customer reviews)I have been using these for many years. They are ground up whole corn. When squirrels eat off of corn cobs they eat just the tiny germ and then discard the rest of the kernel creating a big mess.

I live deep in woods virtually surrounded by State Park/Lake/Wildlife Habitat, Towns Habit, County Habits and Audubon Lands. Off my house is a tree level 30 ft X 30 ft deck with many METAL bird feeders on two sides hanging out into the woods. There is no way to totally protect them from the squirrels, who eat up plastic and wood, but using long, nearly horizontal hangers for feeders and safflower seeds for those that hang close to rails helps to discourage squirrel chewing. Squirrels aren't supposed to like Safflower but I have one pregnant female who eats safflower. ;(

Anyway I keep two logs out at all times for the many, many wild (obese) squirrel "pets" that live here. I can usually go through "only" about 6 logs a week (and some wildlife feed scattered on deck) as long as I bring one of the logs in every night that the opossums steal if left out.

I haven't observed any other birds showing much interest in the logs other than the Crows. They love them. We have several families of Crows who visit daily to eat the logs,Safflower seeds, and woodpecker's special suet (squirrels favor that one too).

BTW... On the few occasions we run out of Squirrelogs and are not successful hitting the few stores around that carry them but always seem to be out we have had to use corn cobs. Between the crows and squirrels we have to replace the cobs every hour or so. AND THE MESS!!!!!

This price from this seller is the best I have found even with shipping. And with one exception the packages from our local sources always have bugs in them ... the one that doesn't has the initials is PS.

You wont go wrong getting this product. I used to use the little wood seat to hold the logs. After the novelty wears off a strategically placed screw holder that comes with some of the packaged logs works fine and gives appropriate viewing pleasure. One local seller sells packages that icludes a holder screw in each package; others sell packages without the screw holders. The prices are pretty close. I have a huge collection of the screw holders and haven't yet found another use for them.
