Tip Trap Live Mouse Trap 6 Pack Review

(More customer reviews)Just as I was beginning to lament the loss of my late beloved cat, I've discovered that the mouse colony that has replaced her brings its own rewards--the thrill of the hunt, the competitive juices of the eternal struggle of man vs. beast, the unending search for better weaponry. If like me, you were turned off after exterminating the first couple of the little pests (glue traps are as medieval as it gets) and are in search of an effective live trap, this one works, and it's easily the cheapest. But it takes practice. Maybe I'll raise my rating when my battle skills are more refined. First impressions of the "Tip-Trap."

The Pluses: The price, the ease of taking on the enemy on multiple fronts, the enemies' inability to resist entering the little tunnel for the peanut butter reward.

The Minuses: I started conservatively, setting out three traps. Seeing they had all tipped, I opened the first and shook it over my temporary "mouse aquarium." The trap was empty--no mouse, and no bait. I did the same with the second. Same result. With the third, I shook it, didn't feel anything, so I opened it away from the provisional "mouse house." A furry speck jumped out and disappeared in an instant (darn thing actually scared me--does that make me the mouse? I do like peanut butter).

The biggest two minuses: 1. If the tube were transparent so that the trapper could determine if it contained a victim, the whole process would be much easier on both the hunter and hunted. 2. If there were more ventilation, or air holes, maybe the scared little creatures wouldn't be dripping-wet, half-dead but hysterical captives (one bit me twice--they don't carry rabies, thankfully).

So far the better bet appears to be the (admittedly overpriced) "Smart Mouse Trap," a transparent miniature greenhouse. (The Havahart trap, I've concluded, has a too steep learning curve.) The greenhouse, moreover, leaves the mouse dry and relatively comfortable, so that his fur isn't all matted down by perspiration by the time he's discovered. (Believe it or not, these little creatures have individuality--in coloration as well as behavior.)

Finally, an aquarium makes a good holding tank before transporting your colony to the country. Feed them standard rodent food, include a water bottle, use a screen top, don't keep them for more than several days. (Otherwise, some will perish and others will escape when you take off the lid.)

What do you do during winter time?Give them a break. It's cold out there and food is in short supply.(Instead of removing the mice from the kitchen, I've opted to move the penetrable food supplies--bags and boxes--to places I defy them to find.)

(More customer reviews)A few day ago Amazon had this item for sale and called it an Bell and Howell UltraSonic Solar Animal Repeller. I ordered two of them.When I rec'd the items I immediately noticed that there was nothing Solar about these items as they require 4 AA batteries in each unit even though the Production description indicates "It's weatherproof and solar powered." It may be weatherproof but certainly not solar powered. The Product Description says "Weatherproof Garden Stake Included Rear mounting bracket- screws included to place on tree or fence." Neither the garden stake or the rear mounting bracket screws," were included.

I'm pleased to see that Amazon has changed the product description for this item.I was given the option to return the items for a refund.However I had to return the items within 5 days. I decided to see it they work as advertised.Obviously 5 days is not enough time to determine whether this animal repeller works. I guess I could borrow a dog from a neighbor and see what happen when I lure the dog into the garden.

BTW when the items were rec'd there was no packing slip or return information included with the shipment.

Lesson learned, in the future I'll do more research prior to buying items when Amazon is not the direct seller.

Big Snap-E Rat Trap Review

(More customer reviews)I would love to give this trap a 5* rating because setting it is soooo much safer than the Victor brand traditional traps.The design looks and feels like "a better rat trap" but has the one drawback that I get a lot more sprung traps without any victim than I do with the Victor traps.By the way I have no affiliation with Victor at all.I just like to kill rats.Talking of Victor, they make two types (that I know of) - a traditional one with a small metal bait holder, which scares the Sh*t out of me when I set them, but is as good as it gets w.r.t. dead vermin.They newer and safer ones have a large yellow paddle which is easier to set (nothing like as easy as the Big Snap-E trap though) and are still effective.The older type still has the 'hairier' trigger though...

Bait - I've used dried apricots, peanut butter and gummiworms all to good effect.I'm told fruit gums work well, but my local store only had worms.Didn't make much difference to the momentarily happy rat I caught last week.;-)Cheese is quite poor.

I also had one of the Big-E traps break - in the 'trip' mechanism.I have to confess I didn't bother to find out how their customer service is - it's a $5 trap after all - but it's a shame it broke.

I'll admit I was a little skeptical, but after reading the full product description I was convinced it was exactly what I needed. I gave it as a present to my daughter who always has trouble controlling her feline. We were immediately impressed; she pointed at her cat, pressed the "Sleep" button, and voila! The cat snoozed for hours! The "Remain Aloof" function works like a charm, and the "Show Affection" button, while a bit sketchy, was especially reliable close to feeding time. The trio of "Get Off" buttons work best if you throw the remote really close to the cat as you press the buttons. I initially worried that none of the three "Stop" functions were working, but eventually discovered that yelling loudly while pushing those buttons did the trick.

I read the 1-star review posted here, but I have to disagree with that assessment. From the tone of that review I suspect the user may have had a problem with the "POWERED BY POSITIVE THINKING" requirement. I have noticed that on those rare occasions when the device doesn't work, I'm feeling pretty cross or cranky. That usually happens when I've not pressed the "Use Litter Tray" in a while and had to clean up a dirty corner. So if you want to get the best results with your cat, think happy thoughts!

My Dog even gave up on this stuff. Must have for small orchards or areas with deer or other critter issues on any young tree. Order the correct hiht for your tree you do not want to cut or try to combine peices. Recommend you buy uv resistant zip ties. Much better than soap wire mess or that rolled plastic that looks like a spring. This is a long lasting product.

Weber 41455 20 Pound Tank Adapter Hose for Use with Weber Q and Go-Anywhere Gas Grill Review

(More customer reviews)the small screw on tanks work very well. But when using the adapter hose on a 20 lB tank the flame is too weak to grill, especially when the outside temp is in the 40s or lower.

I've tried slowly turning on the tank valve waiting a bit before lighting the grill, but the flame is still too low. I'll have to wait til summer before I can use the 20# tank with adapter hose again.

EDIT: After trying the procedure below I'm up and cooking again with full force even with it being 35 degress outside.

BYPASS INSTRUCTIONS
GAS GO ANYWHERE, WEBER Q + BABY Q
Since 1995, all regulators on gas barbecues have a safety device which restricts the gas flow in the event of a gas leak. You can inadvertently activate the safety device without having a gas leak. Typically, this occurs if you open the LP tank valve too rapidly, or if the valve + regulator assembly is in a slightly open position when opening the LP tank valve.
Your must remember when you are grilling you should always do the tank valve first and then the valve + regulator assembly when you start grilling or stop grilling. Never turn off the valve + regulator assembly before the tank. Gas is trapped in the valve + regulator assembly and adapter hose and the next time you turn on the tank, that residual gas in the line will back up and trigger the safety device.

Also, when you start grilling, you should open the tank valve V-E-R-Y S-L-O-W-L-Y, about ? turn at a time until it is all the way open before you turn on your valve + regulator assembly to light the grill even is it takes 30 seconds to a full minute. If you've just had your tank refilled, it has a lot more pressure in it at first than after you use it for awhile. That may trigger the safety device sometimes, too. These conditions can be recurring. If it happens again, then you will need to go through the reset procedure again.

If you do activate the gas regulator safety device, the barbecue will only reach temperatures between 250 and 300 degrees, even with the valve + regulator assembly on the HIGH setting.

TO RESET THE GAS REGULATOR SAFETY DEVICE:

Open the barbecue lid.
1.Close the LP tank valve.
2.Turn valve + regulator assembly to the OFF position.
3.Wait at least 5 minutes if the barbecue had been lit
4.Disconnect the adapter hose from the LP tank.
5.Turn valve + regulator assembly to the HIGH position.
6.Wait at least 2 minutes, then turn valve + regulator assembly to the OFF position.
7.Re-connect the adapter hose to the LP tank.

RE-LIGHTING THE BARBECUE:

Open the barbecue lid.
1.SLOWLY open the LP tank valve 1/4 turns at a time all the way open.
2.With the lid open, turn valve + regulator assembly to the HIGH position.
3.Ignite the grill by pushing the crossover ignition button.
4.After the burner is lit, close the lid.
5.The barbecue should reach 500 to 550 degrees in 10-15 minutes.
WHEN YOU ARE DONE GRILLING:
Turn off the LP tank valve first
Turn valve + regulator assembly to the OFF position.

(More customer reviews)We bought this solar feeder less than 3 months ago. It's very nice looking; I liked the finish and the solar lights that come on at night. The birds seem to like it okay, although it's the least visited of our 4 feeders. We put a squirrel baffle over it to help protect it from the elements; squirrels haven't actually been too interested in this one so that hasn't been a big concern.

I don't have a problem with the metal cord and the lid on this one, like another reviewer stated. The lid goes up and down on the chain a little goofy when adding seed, but the top does close. Sometimes I have to hold onto the top part of the chain to help straighten it to get the top down.

If you're having issues with the solar lights being too dim or not turning on, replace the battery in the top with a better rechargeable battery. (Don't forget to recycle the old battery!) The one that came with the feeder was a 600 or 900 mAH, if I recall. Most typical rechargeable batteries you will pick up now will be 1800 mAH or higher. With the higher mAH the light is brighter and stays on longer. It doesn't last very long though, even with the better battery. Honestly, it's really pointless here in WI because I've yet to see one bird flying around in the dark looking for bird seed!

Here ARE the problems we're having with ours, again, after less than 3 months of use:
1. the color has already faded a lot, although I haven't seen any finish actually coming off
2. the 4 little perches keep coming loose. I check them once a week and almost every time at least one is unstable, making it unlikely a bird will perch there
3. the inside bottom of the feeder is at least 60% rusted and wearing through. The metal base is VERY thin. When I clean it out, I can see light coming through the bottom because of the holes through it (there were no holes in the bottom when we got it!) Not too good considering it's filled with very small seed. As I mentioned it's protected from the elements, and I empty/clean/dry/refill after any significant amount of rain. It obviously got wet at some point, but really? Shouldn't bird feeders be at least somewhat resistant to precipitation issues?

I expect this is going to last another few months before I have to dispose of it. It's unfortunate such an attractive little feeder could be made so poorly. This feeder was a waste of money, and I don't recommend buying it.

(More customer reviews)We were having big problems with raccoons getting on our deck nightly and destroying flower pots, bird feeders, and anything else they thought might contain food.Got the two trap combination, as it was cheaper than buying the larger trap singly (?!?), and immediately set it out on the deck at dusk.The next morning I found the trap had been tripped externally (no 'coon), and dragged about 15 ft while being stripped of its bait (cat food).Changed the trap's location to a corner of the deck, placed a chair on the open side to prevent sliding and reach-ins, and reset it.Over the next four mornings I caught four raccoons, which I then spirited well away from the house.We have not had any raccoon incidents since.Be advised the trap door is spring-loaded, which traps better than gravity doors, but is more difficult to open when you want to release a scared and sometimes aggressive animal.Also be forewarned: trapped raccoons (and probably other animals) will seriously soil whatever the trap is placed on, and do they ever stink!Also, feral raccoons are a primary carrier of rabies, so use due care.Finally, be aware that you may not catch exactly what you intended.This happened to me years ago with a HavaHart trap (gravity door) when, instead of catching a rabbit, I caught a skunk.By slowing approaching the trap with an opened blanket in front of me (so the skunk couldn't see me), I used it as a cover, and was able to put the trap in my van and drive it away without getting sprayed.I then placed the covered trap down and slowly turned it over, allowing the door to open freely.I left the area for awhile, and the skunk was gone when I returned.The point of all this is, you can't release anything this way with a spring-loaded trap.The manufacturer would do well to incorporate a door opening lever or device which would allow the trapper to be at least reasonably clear during release.
